Commands offer convenient shortcuts for viewing, editing, and creating any record type directly within Slack. Simply type /Rattle in your message panel and hit Enter. This functionality seamlessly integrates with both the Salesforce (SFDC) and Gainsight integrations.

There are two types of Command workflows:

  1. Search - Set this up when you need to look up or reference data on Salesforce/Gainsight.

  2. Create - This shortcut lets you create records within a specific object, right from Slack.

Use cases:

  • Managers can use the search command to pull up an opportunity before or during a 1:1 with their direct reports.

  • Field reps can easily create and update contact or opportunity records from their phone or tablet.

  • Leaders have convenient access to the information they need without having to log into SFDC.

Setting up a Command workflow

This process is straightforward. Let's consider a scenario where the sales representative aims to cross-sell to their customers. They need to know the products purchased by them and might need to update this list as well.

1. Create a workflow

You'll find the Command workflows by selecting Workflows > Commands from the main navigation menu on the left. Select Create Command to set up a new workflow.

Note: You only need to build one workflow type per object. For instance, just one Create workflow for the Opportunity object will do, or one Search workflow for the Account object.

Next, select the type of workflow you wish to create for your object; the steps vary slightly.

2. Using a search workflow

Salesforce conditions

In the example below, we'd like to know the products listed in our deals, so we've gone with the Search workflow for an Asset object, and set the conditions to Product - is not blank.

Configure your alert

After you've programmed your conditions, you can customize how you'd like your Rattle alert with your search alert to look and function.

Add Opening text, a message that will be displayed along with the results of your Search, for example 'Here's the Product record you requested!'.

Next, select the fields to be displayed along with your message. In our example, we've gone with Name and Company of the Owner, as well as the Product name, code and description.

And finally, add message buttons! These are Action buttons that allow you to edit Salesforce/Gainsight records, right from Slack.

3. Using a Create workflow

The Create workflow is straightforward; you just need to:

  • Select the Object.

  • Choose the type of Command.

  • Name your Action button (Your reps will click this button to create the new record).

  • Select the fields to be filled in to update the record.

Let's create a workflow that enables your sales representatives to add products directly from Slack.

In the example below, we've selected a Create workflow for the Asset object. Next, we named our Action button 'Create a new product!' and selected the input fields: Product code, Price, Quantity, and Description. Click the gear icon next to input fields to mark fields as mandatory.

4. Additional information

  • Commands can be called from any channel or DM.

  • When using commands, the results are only visible to the user of the command
